Just heard "Shakin' It" and I thought it kicked arse. Fresh enough to avoid sounding too much like Weezer or The Cars, bands that they obviously draw inspiration from. Cool stuff.

Me too. I hate that old rat bastard.

I hope he craps his pants on the next episode of 60 Minutes.

You would, I bet you like prunes too. You probably also hate the kids of today with their "music" -- like the band Rooney ;) -- and also hate the Internet.

Go back to 1930 Grandpa. :D

I kept hearing their single on XM radio and then I saw them on Fox's 'O.C.'...they're just one of a handful of retro-rock or 'revival' bands who're popular these days (see also Jet, the White Stripes, the Strokes etc.)

Interesting thing, their lead singer Robert Carmine was born Robert Schwartzman, as in Jason Schwartzman's younger brother (Jason Schwartzman of Rushmore and Slackers fame.) Jason had his own band (Phantom Planet something) and he actually did the theme song from the 'O.C.' I guess Rooney got their start opening for Phantom Planet around California. The Schwartzmans are nephews of Francis Ford Coppola, so their cousins are Sofia and Nicholas Cage. Pretty interesting family I guess.

edit: oh yeah, I was trying to figure out what "Sh-sh-shaking" was all about anyway. Is he describing a drug overdose, or a bad hangover, or is he just really sick?

I don't think you can fairly compare Rooney to the bands you've mentioned. It can truly be said that they borrow liberally from bands like The Beach Boys, The Cars, The Pixies, and Weezer, but their sound is too poppy to be compared with the acts above. However, their appearance definitely is a throwback to the 70s punk rock scene, i.e. Ramones.

The song "I'm Shakin'" is apparently about being really sick, but I suppose only they know.

Check out the album, it's pretty varied.
