Any fans of 60's and 70's prog rock in ATOT?

I got into progressive rock from my love of jazz fusion. I started off listening to a lot of music by groups like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report and Return to Forever. That led me into groups like Soft Machine and Brand X. From there I started getting into Krautrock and other jazzy rock styles. Anyway to make a long story short I've found some really good albums by groups like Agitation Free, Dzyan, Egg, etc.

My most recent finds are from a group called Aera, I stumbled across an album by them called Humanum Est. Really, really good progressive rock with some jazz influences added in. The second group I just learned about is called Nucleus, I managed to find a couple of their albums online (Elastic Rock and We'll Talk About It Later). Both of the albums are stellar, it blows my mind at how talented groups were back in the late 60's and early 70's.

So who's your favorite prog band? favorite prog album?

I like rush geddy lee has a very unusaul voice its a nice change. At first I thought you liked them with a name like Sawyer.

But my vote goes to Genesis. If you haven't yet listne to the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway album and Foxtrot. Both amazing!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I listened to them in the 60's and 70's.

The British invasion was pretty progressive, I think.

Rush pretty much invented prog rock

Actually, Yes did. Rush elevated prog rock to its highest form.

If you like Rush, you should check out an obscure St. Louis prog-rock band, Pavlov's Dog. I'd never heard of them until I caught them opening for Kraftwerk on the Autobahn tour (1975).

My favourite would be Pink Floyd with Jethro Tull a close second and Peter Gabriel Genesis a close third. I used to also love ELP, PFM, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Peter Hamill, Van Der Graaf Generator, Yes, Harmonium, Tangerine Dream, Supertramp, Queen, Uriah Heep, Kraftwerk, Gary Numan & The Tubeway Army... Never enjoyed Rush for whatever reason.

I feel that the Mothers Of Invention could qualify as progressive rock also.

Here's a nice site.

What kind of Canadian doesn't like Rush. I surprised they haven't knocked you off (and by that I mean kindly asked you to leave, damn polite canadians...).

I still listen to the moody Blues. A Question of Balance was probably my favorite album.

Yes, Rush, E.L.P., Moody Blues.

Wishbone Ash is a band I discovered from their very good instrumental CD Nouveau Calls, part of the old IRS "No Speak" series. Their older vocal stuff is good too.

Pre-Perry Journey had some good proggy material too (Schon, Valory & Rolie were ex-Santanna band members) , though it wasn't until they added Perry that they evolved into an awesome hard rock band. Then a less awesome rock-pop band. Then a cheesefest :( .
