So I this morning I decided to throw my only CD from Stereolab in my bag to listen to at work this morning. "The Return Of The Microbe Hunters", I bought this album a little more than a year ago and while its not mind blowing I find myself reaching for it every couple of months. This prompted me to look up their discography on allmusic.com to find out what else they have released. Surpisingly I found that they've released a number of albums and the one that I owned is actually an EP that was'nt regarded as their best work. So now I'm really interested in hearing some of their other material.

What would some of you guys recommend as their best album? Or should I just start from the beginning and work my way up?

While researching Stereolab I noticed that they listed Fausto and Neu as their primary influences. After reading a bit about these 2 groups, I learned that Neu was actually comprised of the 2 of the members from Kraftwerk. I've never heard a Kraftwerk album in its entirety but I've always liked the few songs that I've heard by them over the years. So to make a long story short I'm kind of excited about all of these groups that I virtually never knew existed and I'd like to get some feedback on this type of music and what albums I should look for.

Not exactly a fan of Kraftwerk, but my Winamp playlist does have (or used to have) 3-4 tracks by them. When I first listened to Kraftwerk, I thought they were early 80's or something. I was kinda surprised to find out that this stuff is wayyyyyyyy before the 80's. I don't have recommendations for you, but I wanna see what the other people on AT recommend.

It's nice to see that other people on this board listen to the same music as I do! I highly recommend Dots and Loops by Stereolab, it's their best album imo. Also Emperor Tomato Ketchup is a good album as well.

I only have the first Neu album and it's very good I recommend that one as well. I really haven't listened to any Faust, but I have heard a lot about them so I will probably get around to checking them out eventually. Other more recent bands you might be insterested in are Tortoise and Broadcast. Hope this helps.
