Any F-150 owners? 1997 and newer plz (lightning owners welcome also!)

Hey Guys, Im getting a new job as of next week, should pay about 2 grand a month, not too bad for being 17. And I should be gettin a chunk of dough for graduation too. Anyways, I really want to get an F-150. I Like the newer body style - 1997 and up. No old square ones, yuck. Now I will probably get a few flames out of this, but I want to lower it a bit, get some nice rims, and tweak the sh1t out of the motor. Now please dont call me a ricer, because Im sure all of you would like some nice rims, right? And no one ever had a problem with performance mods 🙂 Lowering - too bad! I like it and ur not gonna sway me! I wanna lower it about the same as the lightning shown HERE

But anyways, what kind of luck have you guys had with your f150's? Any problems? I know ford had its bad batch in the 80s and early 90's, but theyre really pulling through with some high quality trucks.

Please dont ford bash, cuz its better than a chevy any day 😉

Input is much appreciated. BTW, Im lookin at the 5.4 or 4.6 with a manual transmission. Please tell me ANY experience you may have had with an f150.

Ummm yes I had an f150 and it was great. Youre a smart kid goober, keep up the good work!

The ford manual trans.has gone thru numerous changes. They contracted transmission production with a japanese company called Toyogoyo. And the quality varied tremendously. They also made boxes for the Ranger as well...with mixed results. See if there are any service bulletins issued on the truck you buy. A forthcoming ford dealer may help. Good luck.

Well, it's not the best selling truck out of coincidence. Especially with the 97+ versions Ford has put together a really good package with few quality control issues compared to it's competitors. I wouldn't tie up a lot of dough initially, so stick with earlier 97-98 models. If you're going to do performance mods anyway you should look for the larger 5.4 instead of the 4.6. I do disagree with the lowering option, unless you spend major bucks to do it right you're just going to mess up the suspension & handling of the truck. At the very least, make sure you do the engine mods & other functional items that you want to do before spending the money on rims & suspension mods that won't do anything for abilities of the truck. To me, lowering it defeats the purpose of buying a truck to begin with. Adding plastic air dams, running boards, etc. just gives you something extra to hang up on curbs.

FYI, in the truck world, Auto's are much faster then Manuals (Why the Lightning has the Auto used from the Powerstroke), plus they tow much more (see reason for lightning having PS tranny) A04D

Dont worry, Im not do it all sh1tty-like, it will be all top of the line components for the lowering. And Im not gonna "slam" it or nothin just drop it to a "sporty" level - lol And yes I plan on doing the performance mods before any of the body or suspension is touched...

Do you mean the A40D? Cuz thats what I have in my bronco right now. Bad ass tranny. Anyways, while the automatic may be faster, it is nowhere near as fun as a stick, and also with the stick you can take the RPM to where ever the hell you want and them make the shift, as opposed to an auto which tends to shift at pussy shift times..

Any other info guys? I hoped to get more than 3 good responses...

dude, being up high, and kinda feeling like you own the road is what's nice about trucks like the F150. Lowering it would just cost a lot of money and make you look like a bling bling wanker.

I have a 2000 F-150 4x4. No problems whatsoever. I haven't had one thing done to it other than regular maintenance type stuff like oil changes.

Yeah, A4OD (typo)

If you can program or have your truck programmed for you, you can raise the shift point, I raised the Shift point on my truck from the stock 5600RPM to 5900, and with the LQ4 CAM going in sometime next fall I'll be able to run about 6200RPM

I also have a 2400 Stall 1.8 STR, I can be going down the road at 40mph punch the gas and my 32 X 11" wide H-Rated Yokahama AVS's still break loose 😀

I'd go out to the Corral then, Most of the guys here are Car guys, while you can get good mechanical info here your not gonna get much F-150 technical info, I can hit LS1.com and get specific part numbers people know off the top of their head.

yeah, i got mine last week at the air force surplus. nice little thing. $15 million and i got free missiles too! top speed of mach 2.2 wait, you said f-150? never mind

This is totally OFF TOPIC of your question BUT don't rush out and aquire a payment, What they say you will make and what you will make could be two totally different things.

I would wait a while to insure that you get past any type of probation and that the income is there!😉

You speaking from experence of what sales jobs can and do pay!

Thats really funny for some reason. Really really funny.

the F150 is comfortable & reliable. i haven't driven one with a manual transmission. the 4.6 has plenty of power & will save gas $. reconsider lowering it (i'm an owner of an F250 4x4 sitting high).

DUDE!!! - I got a 2001 F150 4x4 and it's painful to think that someone would want to take a full size truck like that and lower it. It's just not why you buy a truck. The Lightning model is ok, but that's because it has TONS of power and the suspension is set up to make it handle like a car. If you go lowering that, you'll just screw it up.

After all they said it best with...

<< Lowering it would just cost a lot of money and make you look like a bling bling wanker >>

In MHO, if you insist on dragging your ass on the ground all the time, then take your $25K and go get a sports car. At least that way you'll have a little fun driving it. That new all-wheel drive Suburu could be awesome tricked out rally style....

On the other hand, if you want a real truck, then I'm well satisfied with the quality and features of Ford.

GUYS GUYS GUYS! JEEZ please put ur things back in ur pants and skip the anal raping! :Q

ErmanC - I currently have a bronco and have had it for 2 years now. Ive romped the sh1t out of it, from hell and back, thru 4 new U-joints, 6 new shocks (dual front, single rears), cracked axle, 4 broken motor mounts...Ive played the 4x4 role a time or 2 🙂 Now boys ive decided I want something fast and very nice looking. As all of you know, a good 2wd F-150 is gonna be AT LEAST 2-3k less than a good 4x4 F-150. So number 1, I dont wanna drop all the extra bux, THEN pay for engine mods and a lift. A good lift is about $1200 to do it yourself. A nice quality drop is about $600 if you do it yourself. But anyways, I want to go sleek looking, and powerful. Like I said, Ive played the roll as the big romper guy.

Anyways, what do you guys think of THIS TRUCK? This is quite similar to what I want to do.

Cmon now if youre a lightning fan, the above is a respectable truck...

OH, btw, Im a big dude, and dont really wanna hassle with the little cars that u suggested ErmanC.
