Any experiences with Fry's GQ notebooks?

They usually come w/ very little RAM (256MB), slower hard drives (30/40GB 4200RPM) and at the lowest rated battery (4-cell), and integrated graphics of course.

But for a cheap, no frills, web surfing / word processing / CD ripping portable, they're not bad for the price (under $500).

I took a look at the one onsale the other day, it has NO expansion of any kind, no pcmcia, no internal wifi. No thanks, they don't have them to sell, they have them as a draw and then to step you up to the non sale laptops.

It may seem a great deal, but keep in mind that there is no OS (another $100) and you are going to want to upgrade the ram (another $50). So now you're looking at around $300 which could get you a decent Dell and maybe a free printer or monitor.

Also, I had to replace the fan (sister's machine) because her fan was sounding like a lawn mower.

I was at frys and the laptop was pretty flimsy. My friend had one and he had to return it after his lcd started to blead out of no where
