Any experiences with an Athlon 64 Mobile Processor?

I recently purchased a mobile A64 from the forums. It was a working pull from a Compaq laptop. I was going to put it in my mother's FIC K8-800T board. However, I wanted to test it at least so I put it in my brother's DFI nForce3 board and the temperatures were skyhigh. It was running at 60C idle and it read as 800Mhz. Im guessing it was high because the stock volts is only 1? while there was 1.5v put into it. Im sure it's working fine still but I don't think it should be this high. And it seems the Genie BIOS lowest settings is 1.5V.

Has anybody had any experience with these CPUs? Should I just stick with a 3100+ Sempron? 🙁 because while I want the best performance; I'm not home much so I want a solid and stable system for the family.

FYI, it reads AHN2800BIX2AR if that helps.

Hmm, the 1.5v definitely would cause your temps to go that high..

Either the chip throttled down through cool and quiet, or your multiplier and HTT are way off.

How can I adjust it? Im going to put in a FIC board too so I dont know if that is going to work. The last BIOS update was late 2004... 🙁

Couple of things...

#1 Perhaps temps calibrated differently for mobiles?

#2 I know mobiles can often handle higher temps.

#3 Maybe heatsink not seated properly or not putting enough pressure on CPU because CPU doesn't have heatspreader, thus sitting lower. Some people using heatspreaderless mobile processors on motherboards with fan/heatsinks that expect a heatspreader have had to make a metal spacer to go between the CPU core and the heatsink.
