Any experience with Amazon Canada?

I've been looking for a while for a now out of print book, published in 1993. This morning, I find that Amazon.ca has it in stock, and shipping within 1-2 weeks. Of course I gleefully placed the order, but I must say I am doubtful it will actually arrive. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of scenario? Is Amazon.ca up-to-date, or can I expect that this particular hasn't been updated in 5 years? Also, how much is $21 CAN in US dollars?

amazon.ca just opened recently...i took one look at their prices (mainly for DVDs) and ran....what a rip-off. Sorry no experience with them, but i don't see why they'd be different tha amazon.com....

Well - I found a conversion site online. The price paid w/shipping was about $13.50 for a book that is listed at $9.95, so no complaints there. Since you say the site is new, there's probably a good chance they overlooked their inventory for the item, no?

Well a lot of it seemed like a ripoff to me since I'm Canadian... $32 for the LOTR dvd, give me a break. I will get it for $8 cheaper than that. hehe anyway... why don't you give them a call? I doubt they'd lie on the site anyway

Ok let me tell you a secret: Buy from Amazon USA!

It's CHEAPER even after all the shipping (just choose one week option), tax, conversion..... etc.. , i've switched to Amazon since being ripped by Indigo.

The book will arrive nicely packaged in Canadapost and you won't have to pay Custom Fee! (IMPORTANT)

I've ordered 8-10 books already since 6 month ago.:) They ship very well :)

I wish that was an option, but the book is not available at Amazon.com. That is why I went the Amazon Canada route. I sure hope this comes through.

Exactly Bluga, you save a few bucks on shipping from Amazon.ca, but their current selection sucks
and once you add GST and PST it's usually several dollars cheaper to order something from
the US site.

GST? PST?

Will I be charged anything additional than the shipping costs to US from Canada?

I've never dealt with buying stuff internationaly, so please excuse my numerous questions.

Actually when mailordering things from the states (or other countries for that matter) PST & GST will be added to your purchase........ I ordered something from the states & I did not have to pay duty but I did have to pay the frigging GST &PST :p

Don't know but I have a feeling you may have to pay the sales taxes.......... roughly 15%. Not sure if Amazon.ca will charge you because you are out of country. Give them a call.

But it's not from Amazon. I've placed 12-15 orders through Amazon.com, received the packages
through Puralator and have never been charged GST or PST, or been hit with a duty/brokerage fee.

In May, for instance I ordered the "Hyperspace" DVD from Amazon for a price with with shipping that
came to $36.01 Cdn (translated using XE.com). I received the DVD a week later with no duty fees
due on delivery and my credit card statement the next month showed a charge of $36.90 (my CC card
company uses a less generous exchange rate - as all do). I haven't noticed something like this with
any other company I've bought stuff from in the states.

You won't have to pay GST or PST those are Canadian taxes. However, you could be subject to customs charges and/or local taxes.

On a side note regarding shipping to Canada it's a crapshoot on whether or not a package makes it though without getting dinged customs and GST.

Psst.

Use AddALL with Shipping Destination set to "Canada ===" for the best final price on any book, period.
