Any Excited about Dual Core CPU's?

Today is officially Intel's launch day for DC.

They should have called them "Distributed Core" since we will be the first real benefactors of the new tech. I can't wait to see what they will do. 🙂

I read an article on the Dual Cores yesterday and it kinda of sounded like the AMD dual cores will be more beneficial to distributed computing projects than the Intel ones will be. True?

Considering my AMD processors run circles around my Intel P4's, I don't see how it can be any different with another on die core.

You can't say that when running TWO threads on a single CPU system. Intel HT systems out produce AMD in Distributed Computing.

And with dual core Intel chips, you'll be runnign 4 processes, right?

I'll still be buying AMD chips, I just like the technology and attitude better. But the Intel chips are TEMPTING. Maybe if there's a nice Dell deal or something. 😉

From what I've read, only the EE CPU's will have HT enabled.

An Intel HT chip will outproduce most single AMD's (there are a few articles that say some of the amd64 chips will out produce an HT p4) but what about when AMD releases its own dual core chip. I built my first computer before I knew anything about DC, but my next rig will definitely be AMD and probably Dual core...Now if only phase cooling were to become cheap enough i'd definitely jump on that vapocool XE2. A Phase-cooled Dual Core chip...I think i need a tissue.

Intel is releasing desktop chips first, while AMD is going to route of the Opterons first. Another one of the differences.

I was,

Then I did some reading...Found out that they won't be as impressive as I had hoped. IE.. no ht etc shared pipeline.... So I went dual xeon nacona with ht 😛

I might be wrong but just in case i'll ride the dinosaur.

I'm salivating over dual core. Dual core is the only thing keeping me from getting a Venice core A64.

Dual core will be great, I hope.

Will the ones without HT be like the Pentium M? (I hope 😀)

Doesn't it share memory bandwidth between the two cores?

Not sure how well it would do on memory intensive WUs like F@H QMDs and some of the other BigWUs.

But there sure is something exciting about the devil you don't know.

The Athlon 64 is perfectly fine because one core only needs a single channel of PC3200 DDR, so add another DDR channel and another core and you're still rosy. Intel on the other hand, will probably not see as much of a boost on those units when running two at a time.
