Any EDUCATED guesses on 7800 GTX performance in retail version of F.E.A.R.?

We all know that the GTX got its arse handed to it in the FEAR demo, but there are multiple reports that there will be a massive change in performance in the retail version.

Also, right after the FEAR demo was released in August, VU reported that the GTX had been unknown to them during the development period of the demo and thus they had not been able to optimize for it, but this was going to change in the retail game.

Anyone have a clue/educated guess on what the performance difference will be?

Does it really matter if you know or not? I mean you already bought a 7800GTX so why can't you just wait, your post is pointless unless you are asking whether to buy a GTX or not.

I'll give my guess.

F.E.A.R. will be heavily optimized for the GTX which will put it over the X1800XT, albeit not significantly.

from AT's article:
We were interested in testing the FEAR demo, but after learning that the final version would change the performance characteristics of the game significantly, we decided it would be best to wait until we had a shipping game. From what we hear, the FEAR demo favors ATI's X1000 series considerably over NVIDIA hardware, but performance will be much closer in the final version.

My guess is 7800 will pick up considerably in final version, x1800 will gain less if any

The multiplayer demo seems to run about the same as the single player demo for me, so I wouldn't expext that anything will have chanced on the performance for the retail game. That said, most people don't seem to understand that the game simply can't run well with maximum texture quality and everything esle cranked on a card with only 256mb of ram. Turn the textures down a notch, and soft shadows as well and the game runs pretty good.

I expect retail game performance to be very close to demo performance. In general I have very rarely seen retail performance increase drasitically when going gold so close to the demo's release. I do think dual core cpu users will see some benefit from the fact that Fear does plan to make use of 2 cores (although perhaps sparingly) and of course using the new 80.xxx detonator drivers from nvidia which give a new performance boost to dual core cpu's as well.

I already know that it will suck on your 7800, and you'll just be watching on the sidelines as the X1800 owners run and frolic within FEAR's high-particle glory.

Back to topic.....I'm hoping that performance will be boosted for NVIDIA cards since it's a TWIMTBP title but not at the expense of IQ. I have been doing a lot of tests with the built in benchmark for the MP demo and I'm not taking as big of a performance hit from enabling soft shadows as I thought, it's around 5 FPS give or take on my X800XL. I don't have hard numbers to present since I'm at work but has anyone else been surprised by this?

How are they gona "optimize" it for the 7800 when it's still not as fast doing sm3 as the x1800? What, did they optimize it for a gf FX previously, or something? Unless they force Ati cards to run sm1.1, any optimization will most likely benefit the x1800 as well as the 7800, and although it's possible that the 7800 performance will be closer to the x1800 than now, I hightly doubt they can put it in the lead.

sounds logical... except.. maybe they make it so that the highest settings will just be the maximum for a 256mb card and every thing else will have to be unlocked in special menu or other tweak... can be
