well i have a bunch of CD's that are scratched on the best songs and skip repeatedly...and i was wondering if there was an fast or inexpensive way to fix the scratches ?

i have read that peanut butter works but i am unaware of the method of use...so if anyone would be so kind as to shed some light on the subject i would greatly appreciate it

Hair spray, then buff it off going outwards from the hub, should get it to work long enough to burn a good copy off of it

YMMV

Or be safe and buy that funky little nautilus looking cdfixer thing

instead of using carwax, i've actuallly used toothpaste before, and that worked also.

rub it on, the gritiness of the toothpaste smoothed it out some, washed it off and it played.

Peanut butter???? No way :) You need something slightly abrasive to remove the scratches. Try toothpaste (the non-gen kind if possible). Put a small dab on the scratch and rub in a circular motion for a minute or so. Buff the toothpaste off with a wet cloth, and hopefully it should work.

BTW- if you scratched the painted side, you're screwed :)

Both scratches and scuffs can be removed by the same method - by polishing them out using Brasso. Engineers have been using Brasso as a polish for plastics ever since it was released as a polish for brass.

what is this product called Brasso ??? where might i actually find this ? at menards or home depot ?

as for the peanut butter it was just something someone told me !!! never actually tried it. i thank the few who recommened toothpaste, i will give that a try when i get home...do you just dab some on and rub with a finger over the scratch or use a rag ?

thanks again

They should have it at home depot or any decent sized hardware store. It's in a metal can, lable should be red, white, and blue IIRC. If you go to home depot, you'd better ask for it, as the can's not very big and you might have a hard time finding it there because the store is so damn big.

Toothpaste works, I've fixed DC games with it (supposidly harder to fix because of the way Sega made the CDs), but if you've got a bunch of CDs, I suggest just picking up one of those CD/Game doctors and charging your buddies $1/cd to fix theirs too :)
