I've been just crunching it up in garbage bags and dropping one bag a week in our garbage, but that takes up so much space and will take me another couple months to get rid of all the stuff I have left over from various large large power tools and electronics.

Crunch down a whole bunch of bags. Put one bag in each neighbor's garbage collection.

Try eating it?
Build a miniature city from it and rampage through it like Godzilla?

pour gasoline in it and store in an airtight container. :)
bring it out some day and pour it on some sap's grass. or car if your destructive and an asshole. :)
freeze it so it thickens incredibly, and ignite when you want to burn.

How the hell does somebody develop a styrofoam problem? Where is it all coming from? I might deal with 1-2 slabs of the stuff in a month o_O

I suggest the following to fix this:

Find a toaster wire and a voltage source. Stretch out the wire and hook it up to the voltage source (and a resistor) so that the wire starts to heat up. Take a slab of styrofoam and make fun shapes and pictures by burning the styrofoam! It's hours of fun!

there is a chemical that decomposes it instantly.....maybe that acetone Heinsberg recommended, but i remember 7th grade science class our teacher was a magician too.....so he got a whole bag of packing peanuts and friggin made it all go away into a little cup.

edit::::and if there are any smart a$$ folk. no the cup did not have a hole in it...and no it was not over a vortex............ and you could see underneath.

I already explained. I purchased over the course of the past few months a table saw, table saw fence, dust collector, router, monitor, computer cases, home gym, impact driver, VSR drill, etc, etc.

And with two kids in diapers, I need every bit of space in our garbage. :)

So nobody recycles this crap or anything? I kinda figured I could melt it (not burn it), but I can see doing it safely and cleanly taking up a lot of time.

get a group of hippos to trample it b/c it will really flatten it. If you are anti-hippo, then I just suggest you throw out what you can, or go find a store that is closed at 3am and dump it in there dumpster.
