Any DX game locks up...

Not sure where to go next... Any DX game is locking up on me. Well not locking up solid actually, just taking long (up to 20 to 30 seconds pauses) doing anything.

For example, went to play Dungeon Siege, and as soon as it hits the character creation screen it stops. wait and it will let you move the mouse, then stop... and it keeps going like this. If you sat and were persistent at it, you could probably get through the screen in 30 minutes or so.

I wiped out and reloaded XP. Tried updating NVidia drivers. It's running DX 9.0c. Tried turning off AGP texture accelleration at someone else's suggestion. Not sure where to go next... Card is an old 4200 128MB. CPU is P4 2.8e. Memory is mushkin L2 black 1GB. MB is a Soyo Dragon2 P4i875. What else you want to know?

Try force V-sync to be on. My experience is that older games tend to run too fast with v-sync off and freeze themselves.

It's almost any game... AC2 also freezes up. I borrowed a AIW 9000Pro, and it runs fine. Took the Zalman heat pipe (I hate noise!) and put the stock fan back on and tried it again. There was no change...

And it doesn't lock up totally... Just pauses for up to 30 seconds or so, processes for a couple, then pauses...

So could a card go bad just for 3d mode. It works fine for basic windows operations, wp, spreadsheets, etc. Even can play solitare. But any "advanced" (used VERY loosely) game causes problems.

I'm going to try the v-sync setting, but I'll need to pull the AIW back out and put the ti4200 back in there...

Thanks!

Update -
Tried turning VSync off... no change.

Anyone if the Newport News area want to try out a ti4200 and see if it works for them?

Thanks...

But if you look in the post above yours. An hour and a half ago I posted that it didn't work...

And board and card are both supposed to be 8x.

Trying to get PNY to issue an RMA -- since another card works fine...
