Before the repost Nazis come, yes, I did a search but previous topics were too broad or irrelevant.

Currently, my mom has a Nokia 5165 - she had it for two years. She dropped it a few times and now it's catching up with her - it would often turn off, especially when you move it so I'm guessing it's either the battery or the inside of the cell phone. Now that she has to buy a new one, she needs a very durable cell phone, preferably Nokia, that has a design that can withstand some standard abuse. Extra features aren't necessary as long as it has the basic Caller ID, voicemail, call waiting, etc. features; and I prefer the phone do not have advanced features so price can be kept to a minimum and so my technophobe mom can learn to use it quickly. Any suggestions? Thanks.

BTW, we need to buy this very soon since barely any calls can get through because it keeps on shutting off.

Absolutely- as far as my own purchases go, I don't buy anything BUT Nokia. Definitly get another one- I've got a 5165 right now too and it wasn't their best phone. Too easily damaged if dropped on a regular basis because it was large and bulky.

I've dropped my 3360 more times than I care to remember but it hasn't failed. I've only had it 6 months, though. Kinda scary because Cingular makes you wait 2 years between phone upgrades.

2 years? :Q I thought it was a year.. :(

I'm moving on to something else though anyways.. I want to be able to use the Nokia 8270/8265 with a good provider.

Well I have a Samsung that has been dropped in the toilet. Dropped around fifty times and I threw it across the parking lot of Walmart about two weeks ago. Still works fine. I have had it a year.

I know someone who broke a Nokia. He fell off of the couch on to it and destroyed the LCD. I don't like Nokias at all. I like Motorola phones. I've had my StarTAC over a year and it still looks and works like the day I got it. BTW, I did accidentally sit on it a few times.

My wife also has a Nokia 3390, although she hasn't dropped it the build quality does seem sturdy.

The StarTac was her first phone, she bought the 5165 because it went dead.

I was told the older StarTAC's were far less reliable than the newer ones.
