Hi Guys
heres my (new) problem, I get a call from my daughter today at about 3:00 in the afternoon, she's home for summer, anyway she's asks me if she can burn a CD on my computer and I say OK,

Well, when I came home I find out that shes couldnt remember how to do it so I say no-problem honey, Dads home and he will burn it for you....well, she killed Windows . So since I just reloaded EVERTHING just the last coupl of weeks I go ...CRAP!!!!

I could not get into Windows at all nor could I use "System restore" in safemode. So I reload Windows over the existing Windows and everything restored OK. But here is my main problem. I can not use my DSL line at all, wuz-up wit dat ???

I have a Pacbell DSL unit which works fine as I am using it right now with my laptop so my problem lies in my Gaming Machine (gasp)
I set up my DSL protocols all of the time so I know how to do it, and I have tripled checked all of my settings and I can not get Windows to use my DSL, what can I do ?????

I know that if I format the HDD and redo everything that it will be fine BUT I really am trying hard not to do that just yet :D

Any advice from the techno's here :)

if ur using an internal pci dsl modem, the software binds to the registry, so if u restored windows, most likely the registry would have been reloaded. unfortunately the only way to solve the problem is to nuke the existing dsl software/drivers (completely remove) and reinstall, or format pc.

perhaps you don't have filters on all of the phones in your house. i also suggest u call your service provider. I have verizon and they can set up several diagnostic checks that can help you determine the problem. From my experience, 90% it's some type of hardware problem (wire not plugged in, etc).

PPPOE set up, double check the username/pass? or are you using a router to share the dsl connection?

download, install, and set up.

good point. for some reason, i was thinking windows XP that comes with a PPPOE dialer.. when i had pacbell dsl, pacbell included Enternet for PPPOE. install that if you already havent.

if you dont have a copy, you can download it here (as long as you have a email address ending in pacbell.net user/pass req) Link

click here for self-install guides for different dsl modems if you need to double check stuff.
