Just got my phone today, so far I'm loving it. Was wondering if u guys have any battery life tips u can share. If I don't get good battery life im just gonna root it, put on a new Rom and underclock my cpu.
Feel free to share any tips u might have too, thanks

No need to underclock. Look at several things

1) Undervolting
2) A better cpu governor. Use SetCPU (not to set profiles) to look at how long your CPU spends at each clock speed.
3) CyanogenMod kernel should allow an auto 2G/3G toggle so that you're not on 3G when your screen is off. Wait a sec. I don't know if this works on CDMA phones.

Stock Incredible is known for having poor battery life. I never had one for more than a day so I don't know what mod work was done to improve it.

The Cyanogen7 rom makes the battery last a lot longer. If you're not against rooting, I'd strongly suggest trying it out.

You can also give the phone a slight boost with a different battery. The RHOD160 battery fits the incredible (snugly) and it's 1500mah instead of the 1300mah battery shipped with the incredible. Beware of crappy chinese-made fakes sold for absurdly low prices. I think the real OEM version generally sells for $15-$20.

Use a black background if your phone is AMOLED.

I never got that work right on my Droid 1 with CM7, to toggle between 1X and EVDO.

Installing CM7 on the Inc1, with their standard kernel, should net you a nice battery life increase.

1. No animated wallpaper. Use something static and dark. (AMOLED models)
2. Root + SetCPU + Screen off profile with low cpu (mine set to 499 max)
3. Minimize always-on connections like Facebook, Yahoo, etc.
4. Use Gmail instead of POP/SMTP to minimize sleep radio use.
5. Get something to put Wifi/Bluetooth widgets within easy reach. Turn them on and off as needed.

Dial *#*#4636#*#* > Battery History > Partial Wake Usage (PWU). If you are running an "efficient" phone "Android System" will be listed first, followed distantly by your other tasks. If other tasks are close to, or exceed, Android System in PWU, then you are burning battery unnecessarily while the phone is sleeping.

If you still need more battery life, consider an extended battery. There are many to choose from, and they are quite inexpensive now.

Good luck!

Proximity to a good signal makes all the difference. At my old office I would spend 30-50% of my time without a signal and it would struggle to make it though the 8 hour day without a recharge. Now my office is by a window and have plenty of battery left at the end of the day.

If you suffer from a bad signal, just turn 3g off when you are not using or, get a a schedular that will toggle 3g on and off at required intervals. This will make a huge difference.

No need to use setCPU for that if you use the smartass governor. I prefer to have fewer things running anyway. SetCPU for me is just to monitor cpu_freq_stats in an easy manner.

I haven't tried governor yet, will give it a shot, thanks!

While at work I keep 3g off and only turn it on for brief periods to check email/facebook. WiFi only gets turned on at home. Today was my first day usage, ill see how it goes tomorrow. If it is bad then ill root it, underclock the CPU and see how it does.

I had a LG optimus as my last phone, so this dinc seems light years faster and HTC sense is the icing on the cake. I really like this phone a lot, as long as I can get good battery life ill be a happy camper

Run a task killer - I use Advanced Task Killer, and battery life was good. Then Loaded CyanogenRom 6 and now v.7, and it will go for 2 days.... I do keep WiFi and 3g off until I need it.

I hear so much about task killer, one person says don't use it, the next says do it. I don't even use one

you can keep one, but don't set it to kill tasks on a schedule. android will start them right back up in the background (in a "ready" state, but not using any cpu cycles).

only ever use it when there is a background task that is eating up cpu cycles for a long time / when it shouldn't be.

System Panel is a good app that lets you see per-app cpu usage, as well as the clock speed that your phone is currently running at. It also has a monitoring feature that tracks all this over time, which is useful, but I leave that feature switched off as it uses some extra power itself.

Get a third-party battery? I bought a 1750 off ebay for 15 bucks, and easily get 6 more hours of battery life per day.

Sense is nice and all and I especially liked the dialer but a lot of replacements for it are now available if you decide to go a custom ROM route.

Currently I'm using CM7 nightly w/ chad's 2.6.37.6 kernel and SMARTASS gov @ min 128 and customized auto backlight settings and getting through a whole day easily. I also use Tasker to enable WiFi when I get to my office and when I get home, and enable GPS when I open certain apps and stop when I close them. The fast charge feature from chad's kernel is the cherry on top since it works so damn well.

I dnt want to do cm7 because I like HTC sense and dnt wanna lose it

I'm in the same boat as you, I ended up installing Warm Twopointtwo on my EVO. I like it a lot more than stock, and you still have Sense. So it's the best of both worlds imho.

I installed incredibly engineered and its doing a lot better, I was full charged at 3pm and now I'm at 75%, yesterday with the stock Rom in 4 hours I was at almost 40%

You should still be able to get better than that....

Remember that flashing ROMs eats battery too, so I usually wouldn't recommend testing battery life until you have been running the ROM for almost 2 days. Too many variables when you first put it on there.

I had this phone, and battery life was just about my only complaint. Signal strength has a lot to do with it, and HTC is known for having terrible connectivity, so I think that just adds to the problem.
