Any drawing devices that use a pen input?

Hi. I am looking for an external device that I can make drawings using some kind of pen, which will output to a computer. I am certain that this device exists but I do not know what is called. I also wonder whether a touch screen can be used for this kind of use.
It is for semi professional usage for a good friend of mine. Currently the only options she has is to scan or take photos of the drawings.

Well, they are called tablets, but unfortunately with all the handheld touchscreen devices also called tablets, search results get drowned out now-a-days. Searching for "pen tablet" might get better results. Wacom is a manufacturer of a large line of different types of them from personal to commercial.

I own two of them, both by Wacom. Bamboo Pen, and Intuos Pen and Touch Medium Tablet. I recommend larger ones.

Actually, they are digitizing pads. Some do call them tablets, but that can be confusing in a search because you enter the world of iPads, etc. I have three of them, and have used them for years. Mine are Wacom. They work in XP, 7, 8.1, and 10.

Thanks, I have found some cheap HUION with a 10"x6" work area. Those should be good to start with.

While searching I have also bumped on LED drawing pads (e.g. http://www.ebay.ie/itm/HUION-L4S-A4...Plates-BI04-/141637148290?hash=item20fa3b5e82 ). How do these work exactly? Maybe these are better?

^^ This is a lightbox designed for tracing. It is simply a box with a light up drawing surface. The usb port only supplies power, not a computer interface.
