any doctors... or neurologists in the house?

i have a question for you. i've been noticing these sensations that can best be described as electic jolts that are localized in my arms. i particularly notice the jolts around the on the elbows and the the wrists.

i've noticed my lower back popping whenever i twist... but that's been happening recently... but the jolts have been happening long before that... although they are much more frequent these days.

any ideas as to what's going on? is it something i should see the doctor about... or is it something that isn't that big a deal?

it may be a sign of arthritis... swelling joints pressing on nerves... that's what my father has. every so often it's like something stings his hand...

i pop my lower back all the time.

when i would stretch in class, cause i was bored, i would grab the desk and turn as far as i could around trying to stretch out my back.

grossed out the person behind me hearing all those cracking sounds. but it felt so good to do.

"It might be a tumor."

"Eets nadda toomah!"

I experienced something similar, but I traced it to my posture and how I rested my elbows on things frequently, whether leaning or sitting. I was putting pressure on the ulnar nerve, which passes superficially behind the elbow. The ulnar nerve is what is referred to when you hit your 'funny bone', although its not all that funny when you give it a good rap.

Anyway, I was repeatedly putting pressure on the ulnar nerve and that was causing numbness, tingling, and 'jolty' sensations in my wrists, hands, and fingers (pinky and ring). Repetitive ulnar nerve injury is the second most common type in the upper extremity behind repetitive median nerve injuries (carpal tunnel).

I stopped resting my elbows on things and after a few weeks things did improve greatly. It was kinda tough to stop though because it had become such a habitual thing that I did it unconsciously. It took a real conscious effort.

IOW, see your doctor.

I'm not a doctor, but I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night. 🙂

Sounds like, maybe a protruding disc thats pinching a nerve in your spine. Get it looked at. My wife had to have back surgery to have a piece of disc removed. She felt shooting pains like you describe, but in her leg rather than arm.

The nerves that service your arms come out of the spinal cord around your neck, and they cover specific dermatomes pic.

The tingling sensation is prob related to nerve impingment in the cervical region, and should be relatively unrelated to your lower back cracking.

If it is uncomfortable to you, you should see a physician.

much obliged to the serious responses... damn shame we can't delete the lame remarks.

i'll schedule an appointment with the doc monday... i was reading that this can possibly be a sign of MS... anyone else hear anything about it?

it used to happen once every week or so... but now it happens every few days... sometimes several times a day.

How old are you? (relates to MS?)

The chances of this being MS are astronomically small. This would be an extraordinarily unlikely presentation. Don't panic. Sounds like some benign, minor nerve impingement syndrome.

I wouldn't say 'benign'. Having to go under the knife for an ulnar nerve transposition or carpal tunnel release in order to save hand function and prevent disability isn't what I would call 'benign'. Upper extremity nerve impingement syndromes are serious business.

I'd say ice down your left testicle. Then, grind up some Tylenol Extra Strength and dissolve it in water - a LOT of it. Enough to bathe in. After icing the left testicle (keep your right testicle room temperature) get into the Tylenol bath for 8-12 hours. By this time you'll have forgotten what the fvck you were doing listening to a bunch of computer geeks on a computer forum and will have gone to the doctor.

😉

No, I'm not a doctor, but I did stay in at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Seriously though - anything that could be related to the spinal cord would get me to the doctor pretty fast. See a pro.

sheesh....

i'll be seeing the doctor this week... i'm not looking to get diagnosed online. i'm simply asking for some information so i can go to the doctor and present somethings. she's a pretty hard sell when it comes to tests. i want to go in prepared when i see her.

ice the testicles... where do you people come up with this stuff?

Do you suffer from anxiety. I know electric shock feelings in the arms, legs, and other parts of the body are physical symptoms of anxiety.

i do actually... and i did read that this is a symptom of the onset of a panic attack... however, thankfully, a panic attack doesn't ensue.

this becomes more and mroe conplicated. i guess it's best to wait and see what the doctor says. :/

so no one has anything for me that i should ask me doctor about?

i thought you'd be complaning about the itchy burning since you're the recipient of the golden shower. ;p 😉

anyways... so i saw the doc.... why am i sharing this... i dunno. and the doc scheduled me to go see a neurologist... so yay neurologist. :/
