I was thinking of buying some DJ equipment and start messing around cause my roommate just bought some and I'm gettin pretty good... I think. Anyway, I have about a 600$ budget for the equipment, and I was wondering if there was anyone with some good insight on what I should be lookin for if I want to be spinning techno/trance. Thanks for the help

Save more money. For decks you want to get Technics 1200s and they are about $500 each. Mixer is entirely up to you and what you like may run anywhere from $150 to over $1000. Cartridges to play will be anywhere from $20 each for just messing around to over $100 dollars for quality stuff.

yeah

no matter where you ask everyboyd's gonna tell you to get technics

some will tellyou get the vestax pdx something or other's

technics are nice cuz they retain alot of their resale value, so if you decide you dont like dj'ing you can sell them off for a pretty good price

techincs are good decks.... but there not the end all and be all of turntables... there's other stuff out that is just as good, just get what you can find the best value on... ie. you spot some pdx2000s in a pawn shop for cheap, then pick em up...

honestly though, as others suggested... save a bit more money... youre gonna want new decks in no time flat if you pick up some budget "starter" decks... so save until you can afford some decent ones... as for a mixer get the vestax pmc-170a or the stanton rm-3s... both good three channel trance/house mixers...

Here is a link to a similar thread. Make what you want out of that advice; it seems that the Technics 1200 is the overwhelming favorite among DJs everywhere (and is also considered the "industry standard" so you know what to expect when using someone else's rig.

You can probably expect to pay $1000-1500 on a typical rig (mixer, 2 turntables, some LPs) You can skimp on one component or another but it appears HIGHLY recommended you start with the best you can buy.
