Any Dish Network gurus here?

I've had Dish Network for 11 monhts. It was "professionally" installed (a.k.a. I didn't do it myself.)

The hardware sucks.

I just had to replace the LNBF on my dish for the second time. The first one lasted 5 months and I had a repair guy come fix it (for $$$). I just replaced it again (this time I did it myself for a third the cost)..this one lasted 6 months.

Is it just me, or is 6 months an unreasonably short service life for this type of component?

Any ideas on what to look into that is making it die so fast?

My parents have had their dish ( no HD, just the regular receiver ) for ~4 years and havent had any problems.

Has the receiver been replaced? The receiver supplies power to the LNBF, maybe the reciever is malfunctioning and frying the LNBF?

jkersenbr,

Did you find a solution?? We're having daily, almost hourly, rcvr/transponder errors....just wondering if they could have similar solutions....

Dish? We use their LMBF's for our system. That sound's odd that they're failing like that, I ran one for about 6 years straight without a problem. The receiver won't fry the LMB, the LMB is made to take lightening strikes and survive. Maybe someone in your area has something interfering with the normal cycle, and they go into fail-safes(kill themselves) after a while.

If I bring the receiver from here and move 300 miles south, but stay in the same state? Can I still use that receiver with the plan on the old house?

i had mine replaced like 3 times.
Each time they were free replacements since i'm leasing my equipment.

But i think it might be the squirrels or something. THey're chewing on shiat

LNB's should not fail (not that frequently). I would check the Cable terminals. Most probably, the cable terminal wasnt installed correctly (either at receiver end or at LNB end - I am guessing receiver end) and is carrying some extra current to the LNB and thus causing it to fail ?

on 2nd thought, are you sure that the LNB is defective and the dish is not moved ? It could be that the dish moves slightly and you loose the signal (you think its LNB) and when you go back to replace the LNB, you move it back to its original angle ? Sometimes, even 1 degree makes a lot of difference.

LNB's frequently fail in Alaska from water penetration. it is not dish network specific. Water always seems too find a way in. My solution was simple after replacing two. After I finished a gallon of milk, cut the top off till it fit over the LNB, then taped it on. Did not effect signal strength in any way. Since then I have not replaced it.

Looks ugly I might add. Now I do not know where you live, but in Alaska the constant cooling/heating of any kind of electronic piece of, or mechanical piece of hardware will be put to the test any/all products when put to the Alaskan torture tests.

Dirty power outlet?

Is your receiver plugged in same branch circuit as a refrigerator or something similar?

Try putting a cheap $30 UPS on the outlet it is plugged into.
