Any direct competition to Dell's XPS M1530?

I was taking a look at the Dell XPS line - the 1530 really impressed me. The only thing that disappoints me, possibly even enough to stop me from buying it, is that the 9 cell battery sticks out the BOTTOM of the laptop, as opposed to the BACK of the laptop. What were they thinking?! 🙁

So anyways, for about $1200 to $1300 after coupons, Dell offers a pretty nice package for me. I was wondering if anyone knows of any laptops that compete with the XPS M1530? I don't mind paying some more for a better laptop - I'm mainly interested in a "good for the money" ratio. My past experience with Dell laptops (Inspiron and Latitude) has been that Dell's chassis's are really flimsy - cheapo plastic that warps and breaks easily. I wouldn't mind paying hundreds of dollars more for a better build quality.

As an aside, what do YOU think of the Dell XPS M1530 or other comparable laptops?

If you don't mind getting a 17" laptop, you can get the P-6831FX from Gateway for $1250 (I think, or around there) at Best Buy (I even think they released a slightly better model for the same price recently). Or, go to their website and order a similar laptop there (likely a bit more, but you can get better stuff in it).

Comes with an 8800M GTS, so for the price, I think it has the Dell beat.

I have one and love it.

The Lenovo T61p can be configured to use the FX 570M, which is the workstation equivalent to the 8600M GT. Lenovo will probably offer you better build quality than Dell, but from what I've heard, Dell has really stepped it up over the past few years. Chances are, the M1530 is going to be considerably tougher than what you've used before.

Lenovo is angering me at the moment... I can't really order what I want on the T61p - i want the camera, i want the 9 cell main battery, and I want the ultrabay battery. You can't configure it as such.

So far, the Dell XPS 1530 is my choice.

I just recently got an Asus F8SV with C2D T7500 2.2Ghz, 2GB Ram, 160GB HDD, Geforce 8600M GT for a bit over $1k. Screen size is 14" WXGA 1280x800. I got this model in China though, but I think there's a U.S. model with similar specs and pricing.
