I have a Sony DSC-S85 and I have been having focusing problems. I'd say 1 in every 4 shots is blurry.

The camera is about 1.5 yrs old. Never been dropped.

The picts from last weekend are in bight light... here are a few examples.

Any ideas on what this could be?

Is there anything such as camera maintenace?

are these problems new or old?

the first pic, there was too much light bouncing back from the car to focus properly, it's a common problem. the second pic, that is a problem.

are you sure the camera was set to autofocus and not manual?

The camera is always set to autofocus.

These problems seem to have been creeping up in the past few months. I guess it could be me but I have many shots that should turn out, but just don't :(

As for the rice, that's some funny ish, but those cars are far from rice.

i'd have to agree with ya on that one...those look far from rice. then again, this is ATOT, anything done to an import is rice :p

try manual settings. i've had a HP camera refuse to auto-focus with only a few manual settings that worked. had to rma it.

also sometimes in really bright light or with reflections it can have trouble.

Try framing something with a lot of contrast in the center to test focus?

Like others has suggested, try manual focus. The light fair shouldn't be a problem with focusing because it not in the focusing zone. It could be that your camera is set at manual focus because both shot the focus area is closer you than the subject. Also check with the camera store to see if the focusing mechanism is the problem & see recalibration is an option.

One other thing, I have like two auto focus options.

One is just the "square" brackets. The second has a cross hair in the middle.

What's the diffrence?

First one is probably a composite of focusing points, whereas the second one focuses on the exact center of the setting.

I think the first one call zone focus (focusing point/zone is in that general area, and you might want to read up on it to see what the metering mode is like in that mode (it could be average metering @ 6~19% of area, if you are lucky then it is multizone metering)).

The second mode could be point/spot focus (it could be setting your metering to that spot only at 1~2% of area).

It might help to read the man page.
