Any difference between these chips?

When I go to Crucial's site and do their Auto Scan thing, it pulls up the second one. However Fry's has the first one on their site for like $15.

As far as I can tell them are identical. The second one states IBM NetVista which is the Motherboard I'm using but there's no reason the other one wouldn't work right? Just don't want to order it and find out that it won't work for some reason.

Thanks.

Also, if my MB takes PC2700, I can use PC2100 and it will be fine right? Can I also use PC3200 and have it step down to work with the MB?

Since Crucial does not provide any meaningful technical data about its modules beyond the bare minimum, there is no way to know if the modules will use the same chips and/or chip configuration.

Crucial does have 1GB PC2700 and PC3200 modules that are constructed with both older and newer DRAM technology, the latter of which would not be compatible with older systems like the NetVista that are limited to 512MB per DIMM rank. And Crucial's memory configurator is not always correct (though they are hardly alone in that respect). I've seen several cases where the part # recommended by Crucial's configurator turned-out to be the newer technology and wasn't compatible.

If you want more certainty:

Corsair 1GB 184-Pin PC3200 DDR

Corsair's ValueSelect line only uses the older DRAM technology that is compatible with older systems like the NetVista (and newer as well).

Did you want just one module? Because there is this, too:

Corsiar 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin PC 3200

Also, in the event you might encounter some limitation in an older BIOS:

Latest BIOS for IBM NetVista Type 8311

Yeah, I already have that BIOS and it's from 2005. It is definitely an older machine but I don't have specs on it any more.

I would want 2 and Frys has the for $15/chip so $30 for the pair. This is what the first link is though so I'm not 100% sure it'd work in this old system or not. And it's $6 each so that's an extra $12 since the rebate is one per household so I'd have to order twice...

Frys also has a PC3200 set for only $12 or $13 per chip but they are out of stock on those and also not 100% sure it'd work.

Crucial's auto scan showed up the second link above and of course they want $60+ for 2 of them which I'm not willing to spend.

Wish I had a Fry's locally so I could try it and return it if it didn't work.

So you think that Corsair 2 pack would definitely work even though it's PC3200 and the mB only supports PC2700? Might have to look into that.

Should be fine.
