Any difference between generic protein powder and brand name powder?

Just wondering if there was any reason that I should buy GNC whey protein instead of generic whey protein. I bought a tub of this off brand stuff from the grocery store that offers the same amount of protein as the GNC stuff plus it has a bunch of amino acids. Thoughts?

Whey Protein Isolate powders go through better filtering process to remove fat and carbohydrates. In general, these powders have a higher percentage of protein compared to Whey Protein Concentrate.

GNC's prices are insane. You can find better deals anywhere, and no there isn't enough of a quality difference to justify the prices.

You also don't really need the protein powder. You could just eat more good food. It might be cheaper.

GNC's prices truly are out of this world. I bought a gold card and even with that (20% off) and all of their other stuff I can get the exact same product significantly cheaper at another small supplement shop in my area.

Brand name powder you might get better ingredients in there. I try to stick with Designer protein or EAS which have gotten some of the higher reviews. Also, like everyone else here, DO NOT shop at GNC! They are super overpriced!

I think EAS products are a tad overprices but I also have no doubt that their quality is exceptional as well...I normally buy designer although sometimes its tough resisting the other companies with their huge and cheap tubs of whey!

Well, the kind I bought actually says "econo" on the tub. But it does have more protein and less fat per serving than the GNC brand stuff. It tastes exactly the same. So, I figure it ought to be okay.
