Any difference between 2x4GB & 4x2GB?

My new rig will be an i3-2130 + Z68 mobo. Given how daft DDR3 is, I'm going to get 8GB. Apart from the £5 price difference, is there any other differences between running 2x4GB dimms or 4x2GB dimms?

The physical slot connection is often a source of memory issues (not always, but it does happen). Why? Because all signals have to travel through the physical connection and associated attached circuitry. More slots, more likely issues (more depending on QA of motherboard). Therefore, all else being equal, try to use as few as possible.

There's no performance bump choosing bigger sticks like we use to have going from 1Gb sticks to 2gb sticks. So either set it won't matter. After all the modern cpus got big enough caches as well which does well with hiding latency and such. All where less amount of sticks might be better is with overclocking but that's about it.

Go 2X4. If nothing else, it is less power use, less latency, easier on OC where applicable, and you might want to get more than 8gb further in the future (4X2 would tie up all your open slots.)
