Is there any difference in performance whether using 2 of the2gb (2x1gb) kit vs 1 of the 4gb (2x2gb) kit?

DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit

the 2gb kit I'm looking at is here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820134488

For Intel 965 mobo, and assuming the 4gb kit has the same latency, etc as the 2gb kit.

Reason I'm asking, it seems like I read somewhere that using 2-2-gb kits instead of 1-4gb kit, it will not run dual channel mode??

Will be running XPsp2 to start, but thinking about getting 4gb now since I will more than likely move to Vista at end of year. (I know will only be able to use 3gb under XP even if have 4gb)

Reason I would get 2 of the 2gb kits instead one 4gb kit is that the 4gb kits seem like they're only available in the "non-value-ram" pricing level, so the 4gb kits cost a lot more.

thanks..

The only difference is that 2x2 GB is usually less stressful on the memory controller in the chipset. This is especially true with high end memory which has high speeds and tight latency, while its not really a big problem with value ram because the memory is very "relaxed". So if the memory speed is the same and the latencies are the same, the best solution is 2x2GB.
