There are several ways you can control it. It depends on the type you have. There are two types. TypeI and TypeII

Type I you need insulin shots. Your body doesnt produce insulin anymore. You need to watch your diet, but this goes for both types. There is a new type of treatment that you get a transplant.. and it did work for some.. this was some years ago that I heard about it.

Type II is where your body for some reason doesnt use insulin correctly. They build up a resistence to it so don't use it all properly. You may or may not need insulin shots. You need to watch your diet. You can take pills, there are several kinds. One is it makes you produce more insulin, another one makes your body less resistent to insulin, and others make you absorb less sugar. Also some can manage on diet alone.

they can watch diet, exercise to control glucose levels. some still need to take oral medications or insulin. a rarer form makes some people completely insulin dependent (usually happens when young).

This is a very good statement.

I do have to add that type 1 can be controlled with the insulin pump now, not just shots.

Basically you have to balance your carb intake with your excersize and insulin levels.

another important factor is stress/illness, anything that influences other hormones. these can also elevate glucose levels.
