Mom? You let your mommy iron your clothes?

Significant other MAY be an option..it works for me, but, based on this:

dry cleaners are too much

I doubt that a S.O. is an option...they can be WAY more expensive than the dry cleaners...(although there MAY be some...benefits...

Yep, a steamer.

I tried a steamer and it didn't work out to be any faster. Depending on where you are in your career and your future plans you just stop ironing.

i know the feeling grasshopper! i work in an office and wish there were an easier way to iron.

My wife doesn't know how to iron and offered to 'learn' on my shirts. I know that she would scorch a few to get out it. For about a month I dropped of shirts at my mom's every week. Finally she told me the cleaner down the road only charged $2.00/shirt for cleaning and ironing.
Now I iron my shirts myself but I also am loading up on the Brooks Brothers non-iron versions and they are great. For the regular shirts it takes me about 15 minutes per shirt but it was a good relaxer on Sunday afternoon while watching the Bengals lose most weeks.

Don't they make those wrinkle-proof shirts or something? They're hella expensive I think, though.

The Brooks Brothers non-iron shirts can be had for about $50/shirt during sales.

You scored a whole month? I was doing my own laundry from the time I was tall enough to reach the knobs on the washer and ironing when I was tall enough to do so.

 I was/am a spolied brat and my parents did anything for me. Even so my mom got sick of extra ironing after a month.

QFT! Not only did I learn to do laundry at a young age, (served me well in boot camp) I'm also the laundry bitch for my household...and have been for decades. (when I'm not working out of town and/or 60+ hours/week)

Ironing isn't particularly difficult...and there are tricks to doing it right...and fast.

A dress shirt shouldn't take much more than 5 minutes...if that.

Youtube has lots of decent instructional videos as well...😛

15-20 minutes? Oh noes?!?!!?

Assuming that's not just for one shirt, I don't see the problem. I can generally do a shirt in 1-2 minutes provided that it's not insanely wrinkled; if it is, then you might need a combination of better shirts and better maintenance so they don't get that way.

Maybe 15 minutes may be a slight exaggeration; it seems like a long time  but there is no way you could iron a wrinkled dress-shirt in 1 minute. I usually get pretty good quality shirts but I certainly don't sit next to the dryer waiting for the 'ding'.

edit: and I ain't gonna 'practice' ironing. It not something I enjoy; if I can get a few more BB non-irons, I'll be all set anyway.

since ive bought these, ive also started to phase out my work pants collection in favor of dockers non-iron (classic fit for 22$ from costco)

the time/hassle/effort-saving far far far far far exceeds the cost

First thing you need to do is to take your clothes out of the dryer as soon as it finishes running and immediately hang up any clothes that will need to be ironed. It makes ironing go much easier. Then you need to learn how to iron shirts and pants efficiently. It's not hard, you just need to do it in a specific order. Send me a PM if you want some help. 🙂
