Any device to monitor a router and reboot it if there are issues?

I'm having an issue with my router, which is handling the PPPoE for my DSL connection. (The modem is a transparent bridge).

Anyways, for some reason occasionally I am loosing my internet connection. It says it is "connected", yet I can't even get a ping to go through. I click disconnect, then connect, and it gets restored again.

I don't want this to happen if I'm ever away for awhile and need to access my network remotely. Is there any sort of affordable device out there which can monitor this, and cut/restore power to the router to reboot it if needed? I've heard of things like that for servers, but haven't found one for a router.

Does a simple reboot also fix the issue? An easy, but crude way would be to put it on a timer.

For something more advanced, you could use a Raspberry Pi that does a ping test, if the ping fails, it turns a relay on and off. You can hookup the power to the normally closed side of the relay so when the relay goes on it kills power. I believe Pi's have some output pins so you probably could control it right with the Pi itself. I'm not that familiar with the way it's done with the Pi but I'm sure there's plenty of info online.

Another option is a better router. :p
