Okay. I just moved a few months ago to a new city, and I need to get my teeth cleaned. I've been looking for a new dentist, but can't find anyone who knows what the hell I'm talking about.

At my old dentist, you used to be able to choose two methods of having your teeth cleaned: the old school spinny brush flavored thing, and a second method where they essentially pressure-washed your teeth with water, salt, and baking soda, I believe. But NO ONE knows what the hell I'm talking about. That second method was so kick ass, it was faster, tasted better, and got your teeth super clean.

Is there a name for this? Am I just SOL?

The "pressure-washer" you are referring to is called a prophy jet.

It's used when a patient has MEGA stain (like smokers or heavy coffee/tea drinkers) which conventional pumice polishing has a hard time removing. A prophy jet is really messy. I don't use it often.

How often do you get your teeth cleaned?

Ooo that might be it. But it was used for normal cleaning there, not just for mega-stain people. They put some really stellar looking glasses on you that take up half your face, and then give you a washcloth to wipe down your face afterwards. So yeah, it's sort of messy.

I get my teeth cleaned every 6 months.
