Any Dell SXGA+ owners in the house??

I have always been really dissapointed with Dell LCD's. WXGA is useless to me because I need to RCON to 1024x768 sessions all of the time. The black levels on the D610 I had for about a year were so terrible that it was almost impossible to play many FPS'es (q3, urban terror, etc).

I like dells because I like the price, but I'm begining to loose hope that I'll ever see a dell screen I can live with. What are your feelings towards the 15.4 WSXGA+ that's being offered on the E1505? I have a feeling that there will be a good opportunity on it in the 10 day sale they're running.

I'm trying to avoid ponying up for an ASUS Z71V, which has the best screen I've ever seen. Ever.

I have the widescrren version on my 6000...it's just meh. Though it is also a year old now, not sure if that makes a difference at all.

I actually like my screen at work (some crappy HP LCD) a lot better than the one on my laptop. I just find everything kind of flat looking on it.

It may just be me though.

I bought an E1505 with the 15.4 inch WSXGA+ with TrueLife screen and am very pleased with it. But I've never compared it to an ASUS Z71V. In the end its all in the eye of the beholder.

Have you tried playing games on it? Had any problems with the blacks/contrasts?

Havn't done much in the way of games so far. But the contrast seems very good although there's a fair amount of distracting reflections caught on the TrueLife screen. The screen brightness drops *significantly* when used on battery power alone so you need to be connected to A/C power to appreciate the brightness of the screen. Videos play very nicely and I have no problems with the degree of contrast.

Can't speak to the WSXGA+(1680x1050), but the bottom end WXGA(1280x800) looks fine to me in regards to black/ contrast.

Not to mention that the max video card of x1400 does not seem to me like a valid answer for WSXGA+ resolution.. To many pixels for any decent 3D at native res, at least in my opinion.

Maybe if you turn off enough of the features and drop res to half (840x525) in your FPS of choice it might be GTG...

For whatever its worth, everyone that's looked at my WSXGA+ TrueLife display has commented how nice it looks. I have it configured to run at its native 1680 x 1050 resolution and opted for the optional ATI Radeon video adapter. Aside from the distracting reflections off its mirror shiny screen I feel that the display is awesome.

I think that is the difference, I do not have True Life on mine unfiortunately. IIRC it was not an option when I ordered last Summer.

WXGA is useless to me because of the 1024x786 remote sessions I run. I test drove a Dell B130, and the lack of vertical resolution made sessions extreemly cumbersome. (I'm even posting through a remote session).

I must have WSXGA+. The only thing that is in question is whether or not fps'es with dark environments will look like they're gamma flushed because the contrast and black levels are so poor on this particular model/screen, as it did on my old SXVGA, Dell D610.

This is NOT an FPS issue.

Watched any dark movies? They would exhibit the same problem if the screen was suspect...

I've watched videos with some dark scenes and had no issues. I think the TrueLife mirror screen finish enhances the apparent contrast.
