Any decent USB CD-RW drives

Have a space limitation and an available USB port. Want to burn photos for safekeeping. Any recs?? Might also do some audio stuff..

I've got a slightly older external HP USB drive. It's really handy for using in more than one location.
Obviously, the speed with a USB drive isn't going to be fantastic, but it can be adequate. My drive is 4x, I haven't really had any problems with it, using it to burn data, copy discs, and make music CDs.
I've made some coasters, but those were mainly due to some error on my part in the settings or something.

you may wanna hold off a bit if possible....USB 2.0 devices should be coming out shortly, either that or ya may want to consider a firewire CDRW.
Have heard that USB 2.0 should arrive either this spring or early summer....but then again who knows.....just wanted to point that out..

Thanks people,

I can wait realistically until may/june at the latest as I will have a serious number of photos about then that will be irreplaceable (going to a lot of places on a cruise). I can temporarily back them up to my zip drive if need be, but I want something more stable for the longer haul.

Speed is not my primary concern. I would take a 4x drive if the price were right and the drive is reliable. This is not going to be a high use item. I just have used up most, if not all the different slots/bays on my dell pc.

Just got my new Canon G1 and the 160mb 8x usb lexar card to go with it and plan to fill that card soon.

A 4x drive will be 1200k/s. USB 1.1 limitation is 12mbit/sec which in kilobytes translates to about 1500k/s, so a 4x drive on USB 1.1 would be feasible. If this is your only concern, go for it. If your only space available is 1 USB port and you don't want to upgrade your case, I assume you also don't want to spend any cash, so waiting a few months for USB 2.0 won't solve your 'not spending money' problems. Go with a USB 4x drive, should work out for what you want to do.
