Any decent free registry tools?

Can any of you offer some advice for a good registry app? I am somewhat of a newbie still (will that feeling ever go away?) and I know that after installing and uninstalling software, or some spyware/adware can leave traces of crap that can bog down a system. Currently I use Registry Medic by Iomatic (the free version) but am not convinced it is doing a thorough job. I want something that is simple yet effective (or as effective as freeware can be). I have had the pleasure of using Registry Mechanic in the past, and of course not being patient enough to fully understand what I was doing, I scanned and deleted the errors it said it found. A reformatted HD later I was good to go again. You see I am the Father of three small children (Awesome kids by the way! Brag Brag) and I have a hard time finding the time to sit down and you know play around with different software let alone read all about it. (refer back to Registry Mechanic debaucle I mentioned earlier.) I am sure it is a great tool, but I think I want something simpler. Yes, I do have Ad-aware and Spybot with all current updates, so I think my problem is mainly cleaning out some junk from uninstalled software.

Thanks,

Pyro (No, I am not one. I'm a Firefighter)

I picked up Norton Systemwork 2003 OEM after reading this post in the Hot Deals forum. Only $10 and it has a good registry cleaner, defrager, and av. Not free but great for the money.
If you want speed there is no substitute for managing your own processes and services. Research everything in your task manager and see if it really needs to run all the time. It if doesn't then disable it and save the memory.

Thanks "Gates". This is a good tip. However, I have already done this and disabled a number of services and removed some programs from start up. You are right about managing your own resources. I agree.

Thnx,

Thanks Bob,

I checked it out and saw that their utility "RegSupreme" was only about $13.00 I'm thinking about just buying it. Are you REALLY satisfied or would you recommend I keep searching?
