I was looking at the SFBC.com and it doesn't seem like such a good deal. 6 books/$15.95 then 4 more at regular prices (I can just imagine).

Well, first, did you search google and yahoo? second, did you look at barnesandnoble.com? I've personally ordered from them, textbooks were cheaper than at half.com. However, shipping does take a month and their is no customer service. They are like the allofmp3 of the book relm.

A lot of the SFBC titles are combined editions, and they have some books that are out of print like E. E. "Doc" Smith's classic Lensmen series. The quality of the editions is good now too, well-made with trimmed pages.

If you need some SF/Fantasy suggestions:

Thanks Dave. I was just wondering how good a deal SFBC.com is?

I was going to buy some of them used off Amazon.com, but by the time I add shipping and everything it starts to add up.

But if I have to buy 4 more books at $20 a pop, it might not be so good to go the SFBC route.

A good strategy might be to browse their website and see how much they have that you'd want, and how much of that is single edition vs. combined. I'm not currently a member so I don't know if they're more like BMG (good) or Columbia House (evil).
