High, I'm looking for a dvd player for my mom that's under 50 bucks. It doesn't have to have ANY extra features, just the very basics. I just don't want to buy something for her that will stop working after a couple of months, like most bargain dvd players I've had experience with.

Any suggestions?

You can have a $200+ dvd play and it crap out in a week. It all depends on if something might be defective/faulty. I have a $25 Cyberhome DVD player thats gets played almost daily and sometimes all day thats been working for a year and a half. Not to mention I play 90% backup movies on it which is harder on the laser. To boot I don't recall having any issues with it not reading certain media. Just get what you can afford and hope for the best. BTW Wal-Mart sells the same Cyberhome for $33.xx.

Thats all you can do.

The remote sucks though I use a all in one. I'd buy another if mine dies.

I had a $300 toshiba that died quicker than my $20 norcent. It's really hit and miss with lifetimes of these things.

if it dies in first year just return it back

bought a Philips DVD/Divx player last week for $50. It plays anything and I'm very pleased with it. As for longevity, I see no reason for it to just "crap out" automatically, though that's just a matter of chance.
