Any Death Metal Music fans?

I want to annoy my son-in-law, who sings (not really sings, just makes strange noises) in a death metal band - they keep changing their name, I think they are BabyQ right now.

Can someone point me to some actual information about this genre? Like, who is considered good/bad, what is the gossip, what festivals are coming up, whatever. He gets really annoyed when someone else knows more than he does. It's my sacred duty as an in-law to make his life miserable.

Besides, he has some CD's that I really like, but I don't dare ask him what they are. I'm an old rock bass guitarist and there are some awesome bass players that he listens to.

Any suggestions?

haha that's pretty funny that you want to get at him like that.

But i can not be of any help to you because I'm not into really. A good old fashioned google search for it should help you out, or check antiMTV

Well obviously these are my opinions only.. but Deicide is the king of deathmetal, especially their "Legion" album. Cannibal Corpse, Cryptopsy, Suffocation, Vile.. to name a few really good deathmetal bands.

edit: oh damn, how could I forget Dying Fetus and Morbid Angel!!!

Cannibal Corpse is a good one, slipknot I guess could be considered death metal, perhaps raised fist would be a good one, but not really death metal, more industrial skinhead type music I suppose. Just go into your local music store and ask them if they can point you in the direction of any good death metal bands, there are lots out there.

I stumbled on them looking for info on a thrash/speed metal group called Blind Illusion. Blind Illusion was the first band that Les Claypool (from Primus) played for. There's a little piece of heavy metal historical trivia that your son-in-law might not know.
