Any dance masters here?

So here I am with a fairly busy schedule (University student) and no dance experience at all. I am a 5' 10", 165 lb irish guy who has no idea how to dance. However, a girl I like (nothing going yet) invited me to go dancing (albeit with a few of her friends) a few days ago, and I had to decline because I knew I would make an absolute fool of myself. I figure I've got to learn this sooner or later, so... any recommendations/helpful links? I have absolutely no idea what the different dance types entail or how to do anything.

irish + whiskey = instant dance god 😛

sorry hehe but yeah I can't dance at all either. try the whiskey route. or mead. I'm drinking warm spiced mead right now and I kidna want to get up and dance.

You are white. Unless it's a waltz, foxtrot or squaredance you are doomed on the dancefloor.

it's not hard to fake it, if you do it right

If she likes to lead (or knows you can't dance), just follow what she does. Follow the beat of the music (most stuff at a formal or semi-formal is in 4).

Just follow and make small guesses
Worked for me

I never used to dance and still assume that I'm awful but, ya know.. DO IT.. DRINK.. DRINK UNTIL YOUR HEAD BOPS TO THE BEAT, THEN DRINK MORE! Wiggle yo little white butt off and the girl will be impressed - not because you can (or can't) dance, but because you're not a wuss.

It took one moment for me to realize that no one cares if I suck or not. So now I dance, freely..and I have tons of fun too.

Also, unless it's formal dancing, you can't learn how to dance. Or, well, you don't need to. Shake it.. Twist it. put your hands up in the air if you know the words to the song and scream along.. Add a bit of self effacing humor to the mix like i did last week - "You're about to see just how awful of a dancer I am, but at least I have fun" and then, after the night was over she said "you're actually not awful, you're good!"

So don't be scared, poke gentle fun at yourself, and make the girl smile.
