I haven't owned a bike in years, but now I live so close to work that I'd ride a bike every day if I had one. Does anyone know where I can get a bike that's my size? ANY bike will do, just something that I can fit comfortably in.

If you wanted a perfectly fit road bike, you will probably have to have a custom frame built as they just don't make them that large. However, for commuting, you can easily live with a hybrid style bike which is a lot easier to fit. The largest frame available, a long seatpost and a raised handlebar and you will have a comfortable ride no problem.

Something like this should fit the bill.

Here is a good picture of a Hybrid Bike. Note how the guy is in a very upright position and that the handlebars are raised so that he can reach them comfortably?

That looks reasonable... MUCH more reasonable than the $3k+ bike that vi_edit referenced. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate it, but there's no way in hell I'm paying more than $400-$500 for a bike.

So when you say "largest frame available," what sizes should I be looking for? What is a "long" seatpost. They could say they have a 5" frame and I wouldn't know if they were lying or not.

Unfortunately there's no way you can fit on a stock frame. Nobody, and I do mean nobody, makes a stock bike that will appropriately fit someone 6'9". I am a mere 6'4", and pretty much invariably ride the largest available size, to the extent I ride production bikes.

I suggest you get professionally fitted, then look on the secondary market by posting a WTB ad on rec.bicycles.marketplace, craigslist, etc.

It depends on the bike, but the biggest stock size your are likely to see is 60cm or 62cm for a road bike style frame or 28" for a MTB frame.

We REALLY need an official "Buying a bike" thread.

Though I try and be helpful, I'm getting tired of saying the same thing OVER and OVER nd OVER again.

The biggest sizes that most mountain bikes come in is around 21-23 inches. Road bikes are measured in cm, and usually come in sizes up to about 62cm.

You won't find anything much bigger than that in stock anywhere.

Just for you, here are some bike related questions you don't answer everyday...

When you go for a ride with the boys, does your ass hurt afterwards?

What type of lube would you recommend for someone who is a little rusty...

What kind of awesome super-bike can I get for $100?
