Any custom R9 290 that aren't longer than reference?

Are there any custom R9 290 that are at least the same size if not shorter than a reference R9 290? I wanted to pull the trigger on a tri-x but realized last second it is way to long for my case. "Up to 290mm".

My current card is 265mm but has connectors on back. So anythign bigger must have them on top. Reference 290s are 285mm. That should barley work.

You'd probably want to look at the double fan versions. Asus DC II and MSI gamer. Not sure of the length, but assuredly shorter than the other triple fan variants.

My case is rated at "up to 295mm" and the GTX760 Windforce 3x is 315mm long and it fits. The reason is that the cooler is thinner at the end of the card, and it fits under the supporting upright. I am inclined to believe that cards longer than 295mm are built that way to accommodate for what is, essentially, the most common measure for ATX cases.

The Asus GTX760 DC II is 260mm long, if I'm not mistaken. I'd guess most of their VGAs are shorter, but I may be wrong.

What case do you have? That's always useful to know.

Fractal Design Define R2

This was the initial version of this case and hence I can't remove hard drive cage that is limiting the length.

I have to check again when I'm at home but I'm pretty sure the lenght is a fixed limit as the hdd cage is sturdy and "the cooler is thinner at the end of the card" won't help me at all.

The MSI one looks fine. Now the wait begins before I can actually buy it here (europe).

Best way is to get in there with a measurement tape and get a true reading.

There's a member here from the UK that had to trim the plastic on his Sapphire Trix 290 because it was rubbing his HD cage.

If you visit the manufacturers page for the cards you are interested they list dimensions under specifications.

Speaking of the devil, look below.

I have an R3, and according to the Fractal website both the R2 and R3 support GPUs which are "circa 290mm".
I have a Sapphire 290 Tri-X and it fits with some "modification" to the plastic shroud on the cooler (read: hacking bits of it off).

If Fractal are correct on their specs of the R2 and R3 being the same, almost any card should be fine except the Sapphire, unless you are OK with modifying the shroud in which case you can make even the Sapphire fit.

Ok, so anything smaller than the tri-x should work fine. tri-x however is the only custom card available here currently. Still, I think I will wait for a smaller one.

I don't like long cards myself, finding one that's shorter than 300mm is almost impossible now, XFX still makes moderately short cards but not sure if they'll do the same with a 290/290X.

There's a reason why many cards nowadays comes with the plugs on the side instead of end.

Why don't you like long cards? It's not like they work any differently... And they're usually more reliable, quieter, more powerful, more overclockable or a combination of those...

  omg you cut the card? if anyone has an R3, I was able to move my 2 drives near the bottom of the cage and bend the upper cage inwards with my hands to make it fit. The metal is quite soft and pliable and can easily be bent back into shape if you need the cage space later. Just a heads up if you would rather not mangle your $700+ card :)

All he did was cut a little piece of the shroud, not a big deal :whiste:
