My New Year's Eve was par for the course with me, given my very unlucky year in regards to injuries. Long story short because it's a pain in the ass typing right now:
Opted to spend NYE at home for once to ensure a safe, quiet evening where we could be in bed by 1am. Moved some furniture after dinner and sprawled out on the living room floor with by GF and two dogs. Around 11:40pm, my GF's cat decides to come out from hiding because he knew my two dogs were asleep on the floor with us. One dog spots the cat and chases after it. My other dog then bolts right for the glass of red wine I had next to me.
I go to grab the glass before it could break but couldn't have timed it any worse. Sliced my right index finger wide open and cut a major blood vessel. Never seen that much blood in my life. Was shooting all over me, the floor and anything I went near. Tried to stop the bleeding with a bath towel but it didn't work. That's when I knew I had to get to the ER immediately. My GF barricaded the dogs away from the mess and drove me. Fortunately, I live within a mile of an ER. Got checked in and sent to a private room to await the doctor. There was a TV in the room which we switched over to ABC at 11:59:45pm EST. Just in time to watch the ball drop, while viewing the TV upside down while laying on the table with blood still pouring out of my hand. Kissed my GF and chuckled about how fitting it was that I spend NYE in an ER.
Wound up with several stitches and a huge splint/wrap on my finger. Left the ER around 2am and spent the next hour scrubbing huge amounts of blood out of my carpet and all the other places it splattered. Looked like a murder scene when we got home. But, if nothing else, it provided us with a memorable NYE.
