Any cool hacking schemes occur?

I have to do a research paper for my US History class. We have to pick a topic between WWII and present. Being the complete computer nerd , I thought it'd be fun to pick something to do with computers.

Does anyone know if any big hackign schemes went on during this time period? A bunch of people hacking the FBI or something? Or maybe a big virus attack occured in this period?

Also, some other things I was thinking, was gangs. I was hoping we could do WWI to present, so I could Al Capone and gang wars of the time (with Tommy Guns and everything ). Anything similar to the 1920's happen between WWII and now?

Thanks a lot to anyone who can help me brainstorm some ideas! I'll be frantically looking on Google
