I have a data center in Chicago I wanted to get parts to, and was thinking, instead of shipping them from MN, how about from Chicago? I know they have a microcenter, but I doubt a big company like that would ship direct from their chicago store, they probably have a warehouse somewhere further away.

Anyone know if any computer store in Chicago does this at all? ... Kind of an oddball question.

Does fry's ship out of Chicago? I thought they were CALI?
Not sure if they ship directly from their store, but Fry's has a Downers Grove, IL store (opened July 2004). Also look at CDW, MicroCenter or even TigerDirect/CompUSA. What exactly are you looking for?

with Fedex, UPS and the USPS, does it really matter???

I'd rather wait 1 day, instead of 2-3 if they ship from the coast.

Hard Drives specifically. 500gb-2TB.

I usually order from Fry's and it's shipped via the Wilmington, OH DC via Fedex. How far are you from the Downers Grove, IL store? They usually have good deals on 1.5TB and 2 TB HDDs ($90 & $140 respectively) to save on shipping. Of course limit is 1 or 2 per customer.

For the most part, one day shipping will always cost extra, no matter where you are shipping from (even local) but if work is paying for it and your bosses don't care...

I am from MN, like I said before :)

I am my boss, haha. I don't mind paying the tax, and a little more for local, but I have stuff shipped within MN sent to me next day, even if it's ground/cheap. I assume it's the same if I had it shipped 20-40 miles away.

Just trying to save a little bit of time, if I can.

This is an idea actually...isn't it $3 for overnight?

Yup, free 2nd day air, $3.99 for overnight, and $6.99 for Saturday delivery (available in major cities). Qualifying items ordered by 6:30 EST ship the same day. They're also rolling out same-day delivery for major cities, but I've never used it so I'm not sure what the cut-off time is or the price.

CDW is your answer. They will deliver it via messenger service so you don't have to worry about not getting it the next day.
This is my service rep. She should be able to help or get you to someone who can.

Just make sure you ask if it is in stock at the Vernon Hills location. Most stuff is if it shows in stock on the web page. Ask for the best price they can get you.
