Got a dead drive and was wondering how are WD on switching drives. Turnaround time, process, etc.

Thanks

I remember I mailed one off a few years back, took between 3 and 6 months to get the drive. Their service probably improved since then.

Only used it once about 4 years ago....sent them the drive and I had a new one in less than a week.

Did it a couple of times awhile back.

They have an option where they will take down your credit card for collateral and send you a new drive first.
Then you return the dead drive in the same boxes they sent you.

I believe I received a new drive in less than a week.
Very quick and painless.

That's what I did. HOWEVER, they are very inconsistent. I had to RMA a 10GB drive and I thought it would take a while to get it because it's so old. Boom, I had it in five days. Then I had to RMA my new 120GB JB HD and I thought I'd get it in five days. Boom, TWO WEEKS later, I finally got it. Made me not happy :(

Thanks for the replies. When giving your card # do they place any charges on there (to make sure to give the card with an available balance opening if so).

I returned two drives to Western Digital. One was the original warranty with 5 days left when the drive went bad, they sent me a refurbished replacement. The replacement drive went bad a few weeks later, they sent another refurbished replacement.

It took about 15 days complete turnaround for each drive.

I am waiting on a 30 gig drive now. It took them 3 wks. just to acknowledge they had received my returned drive.

Good luck,
Jeff
