anyone have any idea why when reading/ripping with my DVD-ROM, it may be causing my computer to slow down alot? and it won't let me do 4x on the fly anymore, and it used to do it with no slowdown at all on the fly, but now when i rip with it or try on the fly, it slows my computer down. It wouldn't let me do faster than 2x on the fly, and when I was ripping an original dvd9 movie, it wouldn't go faster than 1.5x. And when doing so, it would slow my computer down to a crawl.

Any ideas why this might be happening? And I also noticed that this problem seemed to happen AFTER I installed Doom 3. plz help!

well how come out of nowhere this probably happened? i mean the day before I installed Doom 3 it was working fine. Could it possibly have changed some sort of settings, like DMA or PIO? I don't know what that stuff is really for, but I hear people talk about one or the other.
