It's more banking than high tech, if you had to pick one description over the other.

None of the South though, most places there are still in the stone ages.

I know wikipedia isn't the end all-be all of knowledge but it's the quickest link I could come up with.

The economy of the Huntsville-Decatur Metro Area is made up mostly of Technical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, and Defensive jobs, and companies. More engineers per capita live in this metropolitan area than anywhere else in the United States. Huntsville is also home to the second largest research park in the country, Cummings Research Park.

NYC, Boston.

More specifically, Waltham mass is loaded with tech companies; cambridge is loaded with biotech.

NYC maybe, but most of Boston's economy is based on Biotech, IT, and Education, in that order.

Dude, the list goes on, you can put Framingham (bose, philips), Woburn (Raytheon, Analog Devices), Andover (raytheon, philips) and Norwood (Analog Devices) on the list. And those are just the companies that consumers know about. When you go beyond the home consumer market, there are just way too many companies to list. You aalso cannot forget Billerica which has an astounding amount of tech companies.

Like everyone else has said, Silicon Valley. It's basically the Mecca of technology. The question should be "Are there any cities that are big on tech that are not in Silicon Valley?"

The only city that is big on technology in the NE that I can think of at the momen is the Boston area.

Most doctors in this city per capita than any other place in the US. Tech? Yes.

I will casually add that Boston's 128 belt was the minicomputer predecessor to Silicon Valley--a world-reknowned hotbed, home to DEC, Apollo, Prime Computer, Computervision, Data General, Wang, etc. etc.

Oh yea, and BBN is -still- > *

From what I hear about the defensive showing during their A-Day game, everyone will be scoring on Bama. ;)
