Let's just get this one of the way first "Smoking is baaaadd M-kay?"

Moving on...

It's sort of a special occasion this weekend.. I'm meeting up with some very close friends I've not seen in a while so I want something a little different to celebrate the occasion.

Another buddy of mine turned me on to Gurkha Spec Ops about a month ago.. I really enjoyed the boquet and it almost had a coffee like finish.

I usually go for the Dominican Montecristo's and not saying I won't this time, they're pretty much my go-to. But I'd like something a little different this time. Something earthy and smooth, maybe with a bit of a chocolate overtone and a nice finish... Something to go well with say... some Gentleman's Jack straight.

Here are some that have made my list so far...

Padron Family Reserve
Alec Bradley Prensado
Arturo Fuente Rosado Sungrown
Rocky Patel Vintage

What would you recommend?

Thanks,
-JR

 My neighbor's wife picked up a box of Romeo y Julieta for her husband (real Cubans) and he gave me one. That was a fine smoke.

I like the Dominican wrapped versions they sell here though too. I need to pick up a box of these to keep on hand.

Yeah, I think I am going to look for those vintage '92s. If I can't find some locally I'll for sure pick some up on-line. I've never had one of those, but the description seems right on.

I'd love to get a hold of some of those Opus-X's in a robusto too.

They are immensely tasty. They're quite strong, so I hope you like pepper-y cigars.

Plus, if you get them fresh, they'll be square instead of round because they're packed tightly into the box. If you buy them one-off at some local place and they're round, you know they've been removed from their original box and have been sitting for quite a long time (or that they're fake Vintage '92's).

I've seen Vintage '92s removed from their box and kept in a proper humidor for years and they still retain their box shape.

Check the smoke shop and see what they carry from this company.

They're not a great value (bang for buck), but are very good. Typically $6-8 each for most. It's typically what I go for.

I've got two Habana R&J's in my desktop humidor right now. Think I'll smoke one tonight.

Dominicans and Hondurans are getting good, and especially with a spice maduro wrapper I like some of them almost as good as Cubans. But there is a certain flavor to the real Havana tobacco that is definitely distinct, and hasn't been replicated anywhere else to my knowledge.
