Any chance of their beeing an AGP version for the X1800/7800 cards? I did read the article on the Inquirer about how AIB's felt about having only PCIe. But has there been any news on AGP versions recently?

probably not, the 6800GS agp was just a way of throwing the agp people a bone so they would shut up. maybe ati will release something similar to the GS, but thats it.

IMO this is nuts. X850XT from X800Pro? Not enough of an upgrade. Wait till you can buy a real motherboard.

Yeah and they seem to be moving pretty slow to get this to market. The 6800GS is supposed to be phased out by end of January/Febuary so its AGP life is going to be extremely short.

Yeah, Rollo's right. X850PRO -> X850XT isn't too much. On my side I went from a 9600 to a X1800XT and I'm impressed. :D

All AGP life is on borrowed time. The industry wants us to move forward, we have no choice.

That probably won't be for another year at least since I'm also saving up for a Eurotrip :). I'm hoping that when I RMA my old 9800 Pro in about half a year I may get an X850 Pro at least since that's their least expensive AGP card that is better then the 9800 Pro, considering they don't have any more 9800 Pro's from the looks of it (non for sale on the site anyway).

If not, I can sell the future-new 9800 Pro and the X800 Pro and buy an X850 XT. I know it's not that big of an upgrade but at least it will give 25% plus more performance.

who started this no AGP crap ,, nvidia ended all plans to release G70 in AGP and ATI delays and ****** up made ATI plans of releasing R5XX series in AGP go down the drain. Damn intel to hell ! they made everyone go PCI express. If ATI really wanted to make some money all they have to do is release a card like X1800XL for $350ish AGP and they would sell like hot pan cakes.

The sad truth is that PCI express is becoming a necessity. The power requirements for the new generation of cards is a major factor, as well as increased bandwidth for the future. I suppose technically AGP is still good enough for the time being except for the fact that you can't get top end cards for it. But PCIE is the future and you must eventually evolve, or perish.

sad but true, PCIe is the future, and AGP is DYING, i doubt either ATI an NV will release any high end 7800 or x1800 card for agp, or they would have done it by now. the 7800gs agp is just a rumor, the 6800gs agp can't be found anywhere. ATI and NV both said if there was a high-end demand for agp then they would build it, and there is, but still no high end agp.

By "the industry" you mean the folks at ATI/NVIDIA (evidentally Intel) that decided to change things even though there was no need just to squeeze more money out of the consumer?

Yep you are correct!

All they (ATI/NVIDIA) had to do is JUST SAY NO! But they saw all the money that was going to be made, so you get what we have here. A bunch of AGPers who want to upgrade but have to pay a premium price for an AGP card that would be conciderably less in PCIe. All because of the " we are no longer producing this product" crap.

Yep, this whole being "forced to use PCI-E" thing when there are still millions of decent systems with AGP is just BS. :thumbsdown:

A smart videocard company would continue to offer all the new products with a "bridge chip" or whatever it took to keep AGP sales going until everyone finally switches over to the new platform. It's actually fairly repugnant that they abandoned the old AGP so quick. But considering the videocard makers are now selling chipsets it's not exactly surprising.

I just got an X850XT which I expect to last me for quite a while(my previous 9800Pro lasted a couple years). I hate being forced into anything.
