Any Chance to get a Link Checker?

Just wondering, I have seen this on many other forums and seems very useful, if people can input their link to search for if that link has been posted before, then we would have a lot reposts and repost nazi's

That sounds like a very good idea. Don't know how easily it can be implemented though.

I am not sure either, but I know both Fark and SomethingAwful have it, so it cant be too difficult 😉

Why can't you accomplish the same thing with a normal search?

A search for "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dut6jxCiakg&eurl=" comes back with this thread, about a real-life transforming robot. Now, that thread is a repost of this thread, but since they use different links, a link checker would be of no use, nor would a regular forum search for that link. However, a simple search for "transformer" would have caught the repost.

Once again, there's little need for a software solution for a PEBKAC issue.

Bingo.

Been suggested before; probably unlikely to happen. Difficult to implement, as expensive as a full-text search every time someone posts, and doesn't catch them all anyway.

Personally, I'd start giving out 24-hour bans to people who repost crap without searching first, but that's just me. Be glad I'm not a mod. 😛
