I'm applying for a passport and need a photo. I have digital cameras, a tripod, figure I can take the photo myself. I have a 16 year old mid-level inkjet color printer (it was my Dad's) sitting around all these years. Is there any chance I can use that to print the passport photo?

This is ATOT so whatever you do don't plug it in and see for yourself. :)

But if the ink tanks are 16 years old, don't expect anything to happen except for an explosion with razor-sharp plastic fragments cutting any occupants of the room into ribbons.

I think maybe I like the Staples idea better. However, Walgreens is 1/2 a mile, Staples is closer to 3 miles. First I'll have to ask them what size the print will be so I can compose the shot (or edit it in software) to be the right dimensions.

I have never used an inkjet printer, have always had B&W laserjets, so I thought I'd ask. I have zero experience.

Walgreens will take and give you passport photos for like $10. If you're a AAA member, they offer the service free at their offices.

I use this site. US Passport photo, Italian Passport Photo, ID card photos. Picture taken at home. Upload, edit and then save the downloaded file. Print it out on 10x15cm photo paper or save file to usb and goto staples to print.

Please just make sure you look baller, not like some chump with an old printer. You're representing ATOT abroad.

Guess I'll do this. Thanks. Would Staples be much superior to Walgreens? Walgreens is closer, but I run errands in my car every two weeks, I could swing by a Staples then if they are the better idea.

I'll do my best. It's my camera, I can take as many pics as I want. I'll take a bunch and try to use my best judgement. I'll wear the glasses I use when I leave the house. I've gotten around 50 compliments on them, they're fantastic! BTW, I saw online the other day that glasses won't be allowed in USA passport pictures after November 1, so I'll do it real soon!

I had mine done at Walgreens. Twice.

The lady at the DMV took pity on me after I showed up in her line for the third time that day, and took the photo for free.

Don't have it done at Walgreens.

I use an HP Photosmart 4700 which is inkjet and it prints the photos fine. I live in Italy, no local Staples or CVS or anything close by. Ive used this for my US passport renewal, US passports for my kids, Italian ID cards, Italian Passports..... never had a problem with the photos submitted.

So, seeing as Oct. 31 is the last day I can apply and not have to take off my glasses for the photo, I'm on this now.

I call Staples to ask about them printing out my JPG. I get a live person after 5-10 minutes, ask how much it will cost to print the photo, she puts me on hold. After another 20 minutes a guy comes on and I run it by him, how much to print my JPG for passport and he says they don't do that, period.

I call Wallgreens and am told it's $12.99 whether they take the shot or I bring it in.

I call Costco (I'm going there today anyway), they say it's $4.99 + tax. They cannot accept my JPG, the chip that spits out the image doesn't accommodate, I have to have them take the shots (up to 3), they will not provide me with a digital file but will provide me with 4 copies of the print. Guess it's obvious that the thing to do is just have it done at Costco. I'll have to wait a bit, I assume, but I'll be right there for my bi-monthly shopping spree. :emoji extroardinaire:

Fortunately I do all this before I go to the trouble of taking my selfies with tripod, timer, etc.

Had mine done at Walgreens a number of years ago. Was easy, fast, and not too expensive. Of course I have a very pro Walgreens bias...

I use Walgreens or CVS. I think I used CVS last time and I paid $8.99 or $9.99 with a coupon.

Seriously, this is something you do once every 10 years. You're spending way too much time analyzing how to get this done. I can't fathom wasting even 5 minutes of my time calling around to compare prices.

I got my passport done earlier this month and had the pic taken at the post office where I filed the application. It was just so much easier.
I have no idea if my post office will take a shot. They said nothing. How much did that cost you?

Well, it's done. Costco's the way to go if you are a member, obviously. They had me put my toes on the line, snapped 3 photos with a hand held camera, showed me them on the LCD. I picked one, did my shopping and picked up the 4 prints. I like the shot. It cost me around $5.50. Now I just have to take the extensive application (well, extensive when you include all the instructions!), fill it out and bring to the post office with the photo and my birth certificate and I'll have my first passport application in process. Yes, I'll do this before Nov. 1 or else my photo with glasses won't be accepted.
Because he looks like a baller with his glasses on
Yeah, I figure, I get complements on those glasses all the time, why not have them on?
