Any chance of getting Cingular to give me a break on my bill?

Just curious, I've heard stories of people calling up whining and getting cellular companies to cut them a break on their bill - do I have a legitimate shot?

BTW: the reason for my sudden overage is because we were without power and land lines etc for 10 days - hurricane wilma - so a couple people had borrowed my phone, I was calling more than usual, etc...

There's a decent possibility.

But why didn't you call Cingular right after the Hurricane and explain the situation BEFORE you racked up all those minutes?

Funny how being without power for 2 weeks makes you forget little details like that... I just got the bill today, as it turns out the hurricane was exactly in the middle of my billing period, so all my normal usage was on either side.

I've never had the company just write off my charges... but they (Verizon at the time) did let me split it up over 2 bills, instead of making me pay it all at once.

The only charges I've had removed were when I got international roaming charges because my phone picked up a Canadian cell tower once while we were at a park along the Detroit River.

I'm sorry if it came off as an attack; it wasn't. It's more of a "try to make sure you do it next time" post than anything else. While you're in the middle of a crisis and this is at the bottom of your list, you have to realize these companies really don't give a flying fvck what your situation is and only want your money.

I'm sure his bill was on his mind at the time.

See my post above yours.

Companies tend to be very understanding of hurricanes. I would suggest calling them and discussing it with them. Be very forthcoming and discuss the situation and the hardships that you faced in the hurricane. If you don't get anywhere with them, it may be something you can discuss with FEMA for reimbursement.

Verizon has taken off $25 in charges that weren't my fault (supposedly roaming and my phone locks out roaming). They've also taken off a similar amount for misinformation (telling me Canada calls are free)... good thing they log this stuff.
