so i got a ticket for running a red light, which I knew was coming. but here's what happened.

I was driving a uhaul truck, and was stuck behind this HUGE semi, which i couldn't see over, and apparantly he went through the yellow (which I couldn't see), so of course it was red by the time i went through, but couldn't see it because of the truck until it was WAY too late.

you can see the huge semi in the pictures. Any chance a judge would be reasonable since u can see i can't see the light behind the truck?

or am i just overall screwed?

he would say, should have let the semi clear the intersection and look at the light to proceed. :)

You were following too closely if you couldn't see the light. If you proceed with that defence, the judge will probably hit you witrh a following too close ticket as well.

Sounds to me like you were tailgating...

But still, an honest mistake. Those suckers can be TALL.

That sucks... you have to be pretty far back from a semi to be able to see the light, farther back than is really necessary for ordinary driving. Hope it works out for you, but I doubt that'll happen.

LOL. Red light cameras are such a scam. You should send a letter to your city council. Let me know if you would like some information regarding red light cameras. I had written a lengthy research paper concerning the effectiveness of red light cameras. As I was doing research for my paper I had discovered some interesting facts in regards to the true purpose behind red light cameras. Anyways, you should get some plate covers and spray to prevent future problems you may have with red light cameras. Good luck.

sure they are a scam. there have been reports of the yellow light being shorter to catch more. being put in diffrent places then recommended etc. i would like to see them taken down.

Based on what I've read here, your best bet is go go to court, plead guilty with an explanation, (the court needs a good laugh once in a while too!) then kiss the judges a$$, and hope for the best...It sounds like, no matter what you say, you're guilty and will have to pay, but you MAY be able to get it reduced for the entertainmant value of your performance...(or maybe the judge will give you a break on circumstances)...

Can't in most jurisdictions. Following too close is on offense that has to be written at the time of occurence.

There are also reports that show the number of accidents in intersections that have red light cams are reduced durastically after the cam's installation. Trade offs?

Quit tailgating semi's and you won't have a problem. :)

I totally disagree...they need to stop paying the camera company a percentage of the revenue from the tickets that are issued...

Red light running is major problem nowadays since most people think their time is more important than anyone else's so they don't have to wait at red lights like the rest of us. It disgusts me to see 3-5 cars go through AFTER the light turns red...their total disregard of the safety of other drivers sicken me...this is a major problem in Dallas and I am sure other large metro cities as well...

/end of rant

I bet those same reports fail to mention the increase of rear end collisions at the locations of those same intersections. In most cases, the number of rear end collisions at red light camera intersections has doubled.

Various studies have shown that adjusting the yellow light intervals at identified intersections have effectively addressed the problem of red light running. The problem with adjusting yellow light intervals is that it costs far less than red light cameras and does not have the ability to pull in revenue
